We also were able to travel to an underground city named Derinkuyu where some 10,000 people lived spending months at a time for protection from people intending to wipe out the Christians during the 6th and 7th centuries. They even had animals, wine making rooms and a school in this massive complex which leads almost 300 feet underground.
There are a few additional pictures from the Ihlara Valley which is a beautiful area where people found refuge along the river and woods. I was fortunate to have traveled there 20 years ago and it was a walk down memory lane to be there with Christa and girls. We fit in a lot during our trip, and we enjoyed being in such a magical area. I personally could have spent the entire day exploring through the valleys and hidden caves near Goreme.
